Shape and Movement

⇐ Go Back

For this activity you will need some masking tape and a ball. Use the masking tape to mark the outlines of different shapes on the floor. For example, circle, square, rectangle, triangle, diamond etc. Make the shapes large enough for your child to stand or sit on. Then give your child instructions to move from one shape to the next. Perhaps ask the child to walk to the circle, hop to the square, crawl to the rectangle, dance to the triangle, carry the ball to the circle, bounce the ball in the diamond, walk like a monkey to the triangle and so on. This is a good way to work on gross motor skills indoors and also to help your child to listen and follow directions whilst also recognising shapes.
